Bumbo baby-sitter seats can cause personal injury to children

One million Bumbo baby seats are being pulled off shelves until the manufacturer can add better warning labels to packaging. According to ConsumerReports.org, 28 babies have sustained personal injuries after falling out of these popular so-called "baby-sitter" seats and three of the Bumbo seat injuries caused serious skull fractures. The Consumer Product Safety Commission states:

"If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and fall onto the floor, posing a risk of serious head injuries."

Our Toledo, Ohio personal injury attorneys are bringing the recall to the attention of parents who may have purchased one of these seats at popular retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart, Babies and Toys 'R' Us, Kmart and Sears.

The CPSC is calling for increased warning on the packaging of the Bumbo seats. Parents need to know that the seat should never be used on a raised surface, only on the floor. It should never be used as a bath seat or car seat and children should not be left unattended in the Bumbo. Disclaimers warning parents about the issue of falls and potential personal injuries need to be more prominent on the packaging so parents don't confuse the Bumbo seat with other similar seats equipped with straps for use on tables and chairs.
